What Is Vore Fetish? To Eat Or Be Eaten For Sexual Pleasure

A giant, hungry woman is chasing a man

If someone tells you, “You look good enough to eat,” or “The way to a man’s heart is through the stomach,” they either recycle outdated phrases or have Vorarephilia. Vore refers to several fetishes relating to being aroused by either someone eating them alive, eating another creature or person, or viewing this process for sexual enjoyment.

What Is A Vore Fetish?

An individual into soft vore is turned on by the concept of someone being eaten whole [1]. As a result, they enjoy fantasizing about giant creatures, such as whales, or made-up sexual fantasy creatures capable of swallowing human beings whole. Those that go all-in are known as hard vores. They are into a person being ripped up, cut, bitten, torn, and having their flesh chewed into many pieces and then devoured.

Due to the nature of this fetish, it’s not feasible to explore in real life. Vorarephilia is distinct from sexual cannibalism, and real-life practice can involve one (consenting) partner pretending to devour another consenting partner.

You can explore this fetish through vore fantasy, role play, and art. Folks often create animation, poetry, and porn involving large creatures such as snakes and dragons and other mythical beings devouring a person.

Why Do People Have A Vore Fetish?

Many who enjoy this fetish are exploring an intense form of BDSM. They call the person fantasizing about eating another person the predator, and the person aroused by being consumed, the prey.

Napoleon88 from Reddit explains the power dynamic:

“From the pred’s perspective, you are the most powerful being, able to take from some helpless thing their very life, piece by piece. You get to decide their pain level. You get to make them watch. You’re doing one of the most taboo, irrecoverable things to something/someone who will not come through it unscarred. It’s the sadism, power, and visceral pleasure of ripping something apart with your teeth, choosing where to bite, deciding how loud they scream, how much they beg.”

He continues:

“As a prey, it’s the reverse. You are the lowest of all creatures, completely helpless in the grasp of another. But they will know you better than anyone ever has. Tastes every part of you; appreciate your small whimpers, gasping breaths, lick the tears from your bloody face. You can do nothing to prevent it…you are worthless, their meal, to be appreciated, enjoyed, and forgotten after.”

Itachi_4_ever agrees:

“For me, getting swallowed whole is even more intimate than sex. You can’t get any closer to another person than that. And you are inside the predator, hearing his heartbeat, following his breathing. It makes me feel very safe and protected.”

This power dynamic, as described, parallels what folks enjoy about BDSM. The predator is the dom who uses his power to dominate the prey, the sub, in the most extreme way – by slowly devouring them.

How Does Vorarephilia Develop?

Initially, it may be hard to understand how someone could develop a fetish for being swallowed whole.

However, when you dig deeper, many of the stories we are raised reading involve characters devouring each other. Think about Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel and Jonah and the Whale; All feature scenes of one creature being eaten by another.

When we are young, we are more susceptible to developing fetishes depending on our biological makeup [2]. The stories we hear and read can impact the way our mind develops. When we hear or read potentially traumatic or exciting scenes involving somebody getting eaten – this can stick with us.

If a child hears a story like this during an impressionable time, or if this type of thought becomes linked to their first erotic thoughts or experiences – they can develop vore fetishes.

For some, this fetish may develop from an earlier oral fixation. @FishesDrinkPee on Reddit explains her fetish:

“I think I have combined fetishes. I have a mouth fetish, mostly focused on teeth and only the mouths and teeth of women. And I enjoy being bitten. Hard. Like really hard. To the point, I don’t have a boundary. So for me, Vore is a fantastical way to experience being everything the mouth and teeth of a woman have to offer.”

Other folks on this Reddit forum concur that a large part of the appeal of exploring vore is its relationship to the mouth, tongue (AKA long tongue fetish), and being bitten.

How to Explore It Safely?

As with any fetish, it’s essential to speak to your partner about what excites you about this fetish.

  • Are you into being prey or a predator?
  • Are you aroused by soft gore or hard gore?
  • Or are you turned on by the protection and intimacy of being swallowed whole?
  • Are you interested in exploring a bondage/power exchange component to Vore?
  • Beyond wanting to be eaten alive, what specifics excite you?

You can begin by engaging in role-playing and dirty talk in character. You can also engage in fun, dirty text conversations or create stories together. Or you can create swallowing fetish art together.

A couple having a discussion.

In addition, talk about what physical actions excite you both. Will there be licking, biting, or sucking? If so, how will you ensure consent? Will you talk about chewing, swallowing, and other words related to digestion?

If you want to take vore sex to the next level, you can use stage blood or other props to emulate someone eating you. You can even try to create a space that feels like the inside of a stomach.

How Many People Have A Vore Fetish?

Vore is not a particularly common fetish. For example, in Justin Lemiller’s work, he found that of the 4,175 Americans he interviewed, just ten people described their favorite sexual fantasy involving either eating someone or being eaten or consumed. In other words, only two-tenths of one percent of folks seem to be hardcore vole fans.

Regardless, there’s a relatively active online community of folks into vore play. There are several fan art forms and chat communities featuring vore.

For example, DeviantArt features several art pieces showing women with large bellies looking like they have just swallowed prey. There’s also a 40K member of a Reddit group where folks with a vore fetishism can meet and share their art and fantasies.

Related Fetishes

Although vore is not a particularly common fetish, it’s related to several other fetishes.

For example, vore overlaps with Coprophilia, which is arousal by consuming or interacting with fecal matter. Some vore fetishists are aroused by the idea of being eaten, digested, and eventually pooped out. When we think of being a sub, turning into poop is about as low as you can go!

A pile of poop

Others are into unbirthing, which is a process where someone re-enters the vagina. In these scenes, instead of being eaten by the mouth, they are consumed by the vagina. Many of the images of women with a large person inside them show unbirthing. In addition, there’s something called anal vore, where a person is swallowed by someone’s anus! A concept that I’m sure Freud would have some thoughts about.

Another related fetish is enjoying watching expansion or growth. @Astera_Nightshade_11 on Reddit explains they are excited by vore because:

“My actual main fetish is expansion/growth, and a lot of hard vore results in the growth of certain body parts of the pred.”

Like a subset of folks with balloon fetishes, many folks experience excitement watching various items grow and expand.

Vorarephilia also exists in conjunction with masochism, the sexual arousal from feeling pain. As we saw with some of the Reddit stories, the prey often gets off on receiving pain from bites, chews, or other types of consumption-like behavior.

This kink can also be associated with snuff fetishes, which involve being aroused by seeing someone die. Especially for the hard voles, death would be the outcome of being eaten.

Final Words

When exploring your vore desire, remember that assuming you do not hurt anybody, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being turned on by being a predator or prey. It can be a fun way to explore some components of BDSM in a novel and exciting way.

However, it’s imperative to create clear guidelines and communicate with any play partners. For example, if you are using any force or biting, create a clear safe word and ensure that nobody is physically harmed.

Vore can be fun to explore with sexual fantasy, but if you ever feel tempted to engage in this sexual behavior in the real world or don’t feel under control of your behavior, talk to a therapist trained in sexuality. Nobody can fault you for your sexual desires; what you do about them shows your true character.

As most vore sexual enthusiasts do, exploring it through fantasy can be an exciting, fun way to develop your imagination and create novel and exciting worlds.

Happy exploring!
